Writing for Film and Television

with
screenwriter and playwright
Gary Goldstein

Saturdays 10am-1130a
starting February 4th

GARY GOLDSTEIN is an award-winning screenwriter, playwright, script consultant and screenwriting instructor.   He has written such produced feature films as this past summer’s "Politics of Love" and the romantic comedy "If You Only Knew". Telefilms include Hallmark Channel’s recent "The Wish List" and "The Cabin" and the upcoming "Hitched for the Holidays". He has a string of episodic TV credits; has sold half-hour comedy pilots to both NBC and Warner Bros TV; and has had screenplays under option at 20 Century Fox and Sony Pictures and at various production companies.    Gary’s many stage plays have been performed in Los Angeles, New York, Houston, TX; and Carmel, CA.   He taught screenwriting for seven years at L.A.’s popular Writers Boot Camp, and has also led classes and seminars at UCLA, Hollywood’s Learning Curve, L.A.’s Columbia College Chicago, and at the Writers Guild of America West.

 * * * * *

 Gary’s six-week screenwriting program, being held in association with The Actors Space West, is for anyone who wants to write a new screenplay, finish an unfinished screenplay, rewrite an existing screenplay, or just build a complete professional outline for a future script.  It’s a class for everyone from experienced or career writers to aspiring, first-time, or “weekend” writers.   The lessons and techniques taught can also be applied to writing stage plays, TV movies, TV pilots and short films, all of which will be supported in class as needed.   Topics covered will include theme, character creation and development, classic script and story structure, scene construction, dialogue, parallel stories and subplots, visual creativity, mining your genre, self-editing, avoiding common pitfalls, and much more.   In-class and at-home exercises, key brainstorming techniques, as well as practical applications and interactive discussion, will all combine to help you understand a screenplay’s unique construction--and how to write it like a pro--in an accessible, supportive, and time-efficient environment.

 The course, to be held in six, weekly 90-minute sessions, costs $695.00, to be paid in full before the start of the first session. Script reading, analysis, and private consultation will also be made available to all "graduating students“ at reasonable rates.
