An acclaimed acting coach and teacher, Sara has been involved in the craft and business of acting for over 35 years.
Beginning her career in live theatre, Sara worked extensively in summer stock, regional theatre and repertory companies, starring in over 150 stage productions.
With Terrence Mann in "Burn This"
Sara soon expanded her resume into directing and producing for the theatre, as well as teaching and mentoring young actors interested in pursuing film and television careers. Among these were her own children Ira David Wood and Evan Rachel Wood.
In 1997, Sara was asked to join John Homa and Andrew Magarian at prestigious Hollywood acting studio, The Shop/Simply Acting. During her 5 year tenure teaching at The Shop, Sara was instrumental in developing many talented professionals including Erika Christensen, James Lafferty, Josh Peck, Camille Winbush, Samaire Armstrong and Adam Brody, as well as continuing to guide and support the acting careers of her children.
(Evan has been nominated for multiple acting awards including 3 Golden Globe Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, and 3 Emmy awards and is currently the star of Westworld on HBO. Son Ira has become not only a sought after and highly regarded stage actor, but a critically acclaimed Director as well. Ira has written 2 plays and a screenplay and will soon be seen in the Independent feature "The Nonbelievers" )
Sara has spent literally thousands of hours on film and television sets, observing directors such as Ron Howard, Edward Zwick, Marcos Siega and Catherine Hardwicke, as well as such actors as Edward Norton, Cate Blanchett, Joan Allen, Tommy Lee Jones and Kevin Costner, giving her a unique insight into the dynamics of film and television acting.
Most recently, Sara has become involved in Directing and Producing movies and new media projects as well as career development for actors. She continues to coach privately and on-set, and offer guidance to actors and stage parents of all ages.
